SPEED English Identity Theft Warning
I applied for a job which had been advertised on tefl.com offering positions in Poland with a chain called SPEED English. I don't know yet if this is a legitimate company having its identity falsely used by scammers or if the whole thing is a fraud. One common TEFL scam is that the scammer takes a real school and posts on jobs boards posing as a school which actually exists to lure unsuspecting applicants into giving away their personal information.
After applying to the job I was sent a reply with an application form attached which they told me I had to fill-in to progress my application further. The form asked for sensitive data including passport number, insurance number and mothers maiden name. Reluctant to give away such data I replied asking why exactly they would need such data from me and received no response. Looks like a clear case of identity theft. Maybe they want to use your date to produce false passports or maybe they want to access your bank account. Who knows? Beware of anyone who requests private information without justification - why would you EVER need to ask for somebodys insurance number or mothers maiden name?
