English Volunteers for Change (EVOLC) in Costa Rica is the very best organization for volunteer teaching English in the country! Our program is unique in that we provide free English classes where there is an immediate need to learn the language. Our volunteer teachers offer classes to children and/or adults in rural/impoverished communities, tourism communities, public schools, as well as organizations and businesses in the public and private sector. By learning and improving the English language skills, students are able to acquire better paying jobs, more career opportunities, a better education, and overall enrich their lives and enhance their futures.
EVOLC emerged from a government sponsored initiative, Costa Rica Multilingüe, which seeks to improve the country’s economic competiveness by increasing the number of English speakers in Costa Rica, and ultimately create a multilingual country before 2020.
Volunteer teachers will participate in a 3-5 days orientation at our office in Costa Rica’s capital city, San José, and upon finishing the induction week our volunteers will be taken to their respective teaching communities. Volunteer teachers will live with wonderful host families in rural and urban communities throughout the country during their volunteer work. They will be responsible for teaching English classes approximately 20 hours/week and preparing approximately 20 hours/week. In general, classes are held Mon-Thurs providing volunteers with long weekends to travel and explore Costa Rica! Program options range from 5 weeks to 1 year, teaching children and/or adults.
