Memory is a fundamental tool for any student embarking on the journey towards mastering the English language. As such, it is a skill that all TEFL teachers must cultivate. Not only are memory activities stimulating, but they also allow students to retain and recall central concepts they’ve learned. Even more importantly, short-term recall is important for many language tasks, especially for examination questions that use the TOEIC format of listening to a passage prior to knowing what you are listening for. Therefore, it is crucial for an ESL educator to be mindful of strategies and activities that promote the development of students’ memory.

How to Teach Public Speaking

Admin - Feb 04 2017

Speaking in front of an audience can be a terrifying experience, and even more so using a second language for the communication. As a teacher you need to impact on to your students speaking skills as part of their daily learning activities but first let us answer this, what is public speaking?  Public speaking involves talking in front of a group of people or a gathering, usually the person giving the speech is required to do some preparation. It can be in front of people that you know for example a family gathering or a crowd of strangers. Unlike a presentation, there normally isn’t a lot of opportunity for interaction between the audience and the speaker – the speaker speaks, and the audience listens.

It is pretty obvious as an English teacher you have been thinking of joining an online ESL/TEFL/TESOL community or you are already in one. But for those who have not, this is mostly for you. An xample of a leading online community is the widely renowned ESL Jobs Worldwide. Now you have a clue about what it means to be a great online community. First what is an online community?  This is where you get to meet with people who you have common interests with. They are either here to learn, teach or share their experience in teaching English. You not only get a chance to learn but you also meet with new people from other places in the world, if you have already joined, you can attest to this.

Many people brand the English language as infamously being one of the most difficult languages to gain full mastery on. Most people struggle when engaging in learning of the language. For those people be it foreigners or even those who have a basic knowledge of the language, who need to master the basic principles of grammar there is always the untold secret on how to do it. Grammar has set a syntax which is to be followed and effectively used in its usage.  The anatomy of great English involves the recognition of the proper role of words usage and the best way to structure sentences. Words, expressions and sentences made in an orderly manner make up English communication more comprehensible.

Every teacher dreams of an engaged class with minimal disruptions. For those of you wondering how to go about realizing this ideal situation, the answer is simple; relationship and rapport building. These two factors are especially important when it comes to teaching a second language. ESL students often find themselves in an unfamiliar environment, learning a foreign language. Bridging the gap and better connecting with students will certainly lighten the load. Not only will forming relationships bring out your students’ potential, but it goes a long way towards achieving a desirable classroom management situation.

English is the number one language which offers the widest range of opportunities of all kinds in the world. It is the leading language used by the America continent and for several centuries it has spread its strength and presence among the many continents of the world. I believe this article will clear shadows of doubt that you may have set up within yourself which rather under estimated the value of the English language in your life.  English touches in a dynamic way various field of life. The economic sector, the social sector, the political sector all in a harmonious way use the language to work in a collaborative manner that brings forth great results.

Less Traveled TESOL Destinations

Admin - Jun 14 2016

Teaching English to speakers of other languages can bring practitioners to less expected locations where the local demand for English teachers also offers interesting opportunities.  Everyone in the ESL and EFL sector is aware of the thriving English education market in many key cities of Asia such as Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo and Bangkok as well as European destinations such as the metropolitan centers of Barcelona, Athens, Istanbul and Hamburg. Just about everyone planning to teach English as a second or foreign language abroad craves to live and work in one of these fascinating and financially-rewarding population centers.

The Internet is dramatically transforming the way English is learned as a second or foreign language. Like other aspects in our daily lives that have been profoundly influenced by Internet technologies, the way learners receive and learn new languages is enriched and fast tracked with the integration of online tools in ESL/EFL education. The way the Internet breaches the physical and cultural distance between learning facilitators and students is possibly its most fundamental impact on education in general.

That education and social media will share borders and encroach on each other's area of influence shouldn't come as a surprise. On one hand, education as we know it is very much a social engagement in itself, involving teachers (the channels of new cognitive experiences) and students (the learners of new or restructured knowledge). On the other hand, social media is both a technologicaltool for communicating different ideas as well as an enriched environment for collaboration. As such, the benefits that social media can deliver to contemporary education can be very tremendous, indeed.

Technology transforms virtually all human pursuits. In the field of education, the use of audiovisual aids, computers, and telecommunication devices has radically altered classroom dynamics. For ESL and TFL practitioners, the possibilities being opened up by technology are highly promising, with the currently accepted practices already demonstrating the huge benefits technology offers to both students and educators. Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is a growing sector and advocacy in the language instruction area that has huge potentials in making the learning of a second or foreign language easier and more accessible.
