When it comes to TESOL teacher training courses, there are many available in the market. But the trick is to choose the right one - both in terms of your target fit and in terms of authenticity. Teaching English to students as a second language has become such a popular career choice, that TESOL teacher training courses have become a full time business venture in themselves. We are here summarizing some key points which you must address before you decide to land yourself a particular course.

Allowing students to use their first (native) language, or L1, in a language learning classroom is often hotly debated. You may even have experience from learning a second language, or L2, yourself. For example, in your high school Spanish class, your teacher would probably not allow you to use your native language to talk to your fellow classmates. You would ONLY be allowed to communicate in the target language (aka the L2). The logic here is clear…

Portfolios have long been a favored assessment method for students. They showcase student progress through your course, are physical representations of their learning, and effectively highlight their abilities. As an educator, assessing a well constructed student portfolio can be quite satisfying. You're proud of your student’s progress as well as your ability to guide them through the learning process. Now let's take this same logic and apply it in a different setting. As an employer, when you have sometimes hundreds of applicants for one position, wouldn't you like a concise effective way to evaluate them? Wouldn't a candidate who could effectively and efficiently demonstrate their teaching abilities rise quickly to the top of the pile?

You can display a ton of good data in your teaching, however you can't generally control regardless of whether a person gains from them. The learners claim what they realize and quite a bit of it is dictated by their level of inspiration. The uplifting news is that while you can't make a person learn, you can make a situation that is more helpful for learning. You do this by taking advantage of the learner's inspiration. Your occupation is to make sense of what will propel your learners and afterward utilize that edge to draw them into the course. Commonly, individuals are propelled when their learning has meaning. For instance, in the event that I realize that passing a course will compare to an expansion in my wage, I am propelled to pass the course.

Memory is a fundamental tool for any student embarking on the journey towards mastering the English language. As such, it is a skill that all TEFL teachers must cultivate. Not only are memory activities stimulating, but they also allow students to retain and recall central concepts they’ve learned. Even more importantly, short-term recall is important for many language tasks, especially for examination questions that use the TOEIC format of listening to a passage prior to knowing what you are listening for. Therefore, it is crucial for an ESL educator to be mindful of strategies and activities that promote the development of students’ memory.

Admin - Feb 04 2017

Speaking in front of an audience can be a terrifying experience, and even more so using a second language for the communication. As a teacher you need to impact on to your students speaking skills as part of their daily learning activities but first let us answer this, what is public speaking?  Public speaking involves talking in front of a group of people or a gathering, usually the person giving the speech is required to do some preparation. It can be in front of people that you know for example a family gathering or a crowd of strangers. Unlike a presentation, there normally isn’t a lot of opportunity for interaction between the audience and the speaker – the speaker speaks, and the audience listens.
