The Department of Theatre and Film at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Design. The Department seeks a dynamic artist with experience in scenic design for live performance such as theatre and opera, and recorded media such as film and television.

Applicants must have a terminal degree such as an MFA or PhD, knowledge of digital technologies, and a commitment to developing innovative artistic and research projects. In addition, we seek applicants who demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, and the potential to foster learning opportunities that make connections between creative work in live and recorded media. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Department's BFA and MFA programs in Theatre and Film, advise graduate and undergraduate students, maintain a strong profile of scholarly activity in artistic practice and research, and provide service to the Department and the University. The appointment will begin July 1, 2017.

The UBC Department of Theatre and Film offers a comprehensive range of degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We work to develop the student's intellectual, creative and technical skills as they prepare to embark on professional careers. A full range of courses provides students with core disciplinary knowledge, familiarity with the diversity of aesthetic practices, and practical experience in theatre and film. The Department, located on the beautiful Point Grey campus in Vancouver, has seventeen full-time and eight to ten part-time faculty, as well as a strong complement of expert support staff.
