The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) seeks a Director, who has the vision, leadership and experience to lead the Community Learning Center (CLC), in providing high quality adult basic education that can meet the needs of Cambridge residents.

Since 1971, the CLC has been helping adults improve their lives, career opportunities and community involvement by providing high quality programs, delivered by our experienced and diverse staff. Our program design and student outcomes have been recognized throughout Cambridge and the region.

CLC’s state-of-the-art “green” facility with advanced technology infrastructure, offers dynamic tools and vibrant learning spaces for students and educators. Come lead a wonderful team of dedicated instructors, advisors, administrative staff, and community engagement workers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (snapshot):

Oversee the development and implementation of the CLC's long-range plan
Oversee fiscal tracking and reporting: responsible for a budget of over $2 million including City funds, grants, and contracts
Work with CLC and DHSP staff, community agencies, and residents to identify unmet needs and develop a collaborative plan to meet them
Serve as liaison to other city departments, the Cambridge School Department, community agencies, businesses and funders
Maintain CLC's involvement with local, state, regional, and federal policy development and advocacy related to adult basic education

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Bachelor’s degree in administration, education, or a related field; masters preferred. Experience in administration of adult education programs and knowledge of major issues in the field. Experience working with the adult learner population; experience teaching ABE and/or ESOL strongly preferred. Five years or more of management experience, including supervisory experience. Successful grant-writing and grant management experience. Commitment to participatory decision-making.
