Position Information

Murray High School is in the Albury suburb of Lavington. It is a medium sized school with an enrolment of 730 students, 8% of whom are from a language background other than English and 8% are Aboriginal. The school provides education for students drawn mainly from Lavington but also has significant enrolments from the surrounding villages and rural areas. Murray High School has a commitment to promoting excellence and equity through a varied curriculum designed to challenge students and cater for a variety of needs, interests and abilities from Year 7 through to Year 12. Strong, fair and supportive welfare structures, in conjunction with an established Positive Behaviour for Learning program, provide a safe, happy school in a caring environment. Murray High has a significant and increasing number of English as a Second Language students and prides itself on providing a high quality support program for these students. It also has a Tutorial Centre which works closely with students who are at risk of prematurely disengaging from education. The Durakar Learning Community is central to the operations of the school and ensures that student learning is a Kindergarten to Year 12 experience.

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach English Years 7-12. Willingness to teach English as a Second Language. Demonstrated ability to differentiate teaching and learning programs to cater for students with diverse learning needs. Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of students from a non-English speaking background and low socio-economic status. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on whole school programs, and as part of the faculty team.
