Thailand PrimerThe teaching market in the Land of Smiles isn't what it was prior to the country's economic collapse during the mid-nineties but that doesn't mean the Thailand hasn't rebounded enough to make it - once again - South East Asia's most attractive TEFL destination. Jobs abound for native-speakers with degrees and TESOL certificates willing to pound the pavement and apply in person. The pay doesn't measure up to Japan, Korea or Taiwan but for travelling teachers looking for more than money the beaches, culture and people are reward enough.Teaching salaries start at 20,000 Baht per month and go up from there. Private lessons are common and go for 250+ Baht per hour. A Bachelor's degree and a TESOL certificate are required for a teaching visa. Airfare is usually not paid and accommodations are seldom provided. The hiring season is year-round with most jobs going to teachers who are in Thailand and can apply in person. Take your TESOL training in beautiful Thailand! |
