Italy Primer

Italy remains one of the countries that aspiring teachers picture in their minds when they contemplate teaching in Europe. It should come as no surprise then that Italy is a fairly competitive teaching market, particularly for non-EU passport holders. Still, there are jobs available for other teachers, especially those who speak "American English" and are willing to search for jobs on the ground, door-to-door.

Schools usually request and often require TESOL training. Salaries vary from cosmopolitan centres to more rural locations so do your homework. A good salary in a smaller city may not be enough to cover the rent in Milan. Private tutoring opportunities exist and pay relatively well. Italy is a country committed to English education so that job market there should continue to grow.
