Chile Primer

Chile is a great TEFL opportunity! Its economy remains strong and its need for English continues to grow. Considered conservative by Latin American standards, Chile can still boast a vibrant culture with a rich past and a bright future. While North American English is preferred there are jobs for qualified native-speakers from other countries as well.

Chile's job market can be competitive, particularly in Santiago, Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. No longer considered off-the-beaten-path, Santiago in particular has become a world-class teaching destination and TEFL job ads confirm that. Generally speaking, university degrees and TESOL certificates are required credentials for employment. Salaries start at about 300,00 Pesos per month and go up from there. Private teaching opportunities are available though you may have to network to find them. The hiring season peaks for February and March start dates though jobs can now be had year round. Jobs are attainable from abroad though teachers pounding the pavement in person will likely have more success.
