Scenic Design for Theatre and Film (Assistant Professor)
26 Oct, 2016
The Department of Theatre and Film at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Design. The Department seeks a dynamic artist with experience in scenic design for live performance such as theatre and opera, and recorded media such as film and television.
Applicants must have a terminal degree such as an MFA or PhD, knowledge of digital technologies, and a commitment to developing innovative artistic and research projects. In addition, we seek applicants who demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching, and the potential to foster learning opportunities that make connections between creative work in live and recorded media. The successful candidate will teach courses in the Department's BFA and MFA programs in Theatre and Film, advise graduate and undergraduate students, maintain a strong profile of scholarly activity in artistic practice and research, and provide service to the Department and the University. The appointment will begin July 1, 2017.
The UBC Department of Theatre and Film offers a comprehensive range of degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We work to develop the student's intellectual, creative and technical skills as they prepare to embark on professional careers. A full range of courses provides students with core disciplinary knowledge, familiarity with the diversity of aesthetic practices, and practical experience in theatre and film. The Department, located on the beautiful Point Grey campus in Vancouver, has seventeen full-time and eight to ten part-time faculty, as well as a strong complement of expert support staff. For information, visit: http://theatrefilm.ubc.ca/
Applications must include: a cover letter, CV, digital portfolio, statement of artistic/research interests, statement of teaching interests, and evidence of teaching experience and effectiveness.
Applications must be submitted online by December 31, 2016 at: http://thfl-recruitment.adm.arts.ubc.ca. (follow instructions provided on the application webpage).
In addition, applicants are required to arrange to have 3 confidential, signed, letters of reference sent to email@example.com by the same deadline. Review of completed applications will begin soon after the deadline, and will continue until the position is filled.
UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity and diversity within its community. We especially welcome applications from members of visible minority groups, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
